Rehabilitation
The Centre provides rehabilitation for patients who are medically stable but require support to increase their independence in daily tasks.
Patients come to us for rehabilitation to improve their mobility, strength, independence in personal and domestic care tasks, cognitive ability, communication, and other things. Patients are given the opportunity to develop the daily skills they need, with the intention that they can return to living independently in their own homes.
Alayande Rehabilitation Centre is multi- disciplinary. This means rehabilitation is provided by a number of different healthcare professionals, including nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians and psychologists.
Throughout your stay you will be supported to carry out daily tasks. Rehabilitation will not just be provided by qualified therapists; all members of the team will be involved in supporting you to carry out daily tasks in a rehabilitative way. For example, staff will support you to wash and dress with as much independence as you are able. You may be encouraged to complete parts of the task yourself or with close support when you are safely able to do so.
During your stay you will be asked what you want to achieve while you are with us. Your rehabilitation goals will be set between you and the therapy team. You will be expected to take part in all opportunities for rehabilitation.
All the rehabilitation you take part in on the unit will be working towards your discharge date. Rehabilitation is provided on the unit through a number of different interventions including:
Individual therapy sessions + joint therapy sessions + therapeutic group work (upper limb group, balance group)
Daily activities (going to the day room, breakfast preparation, washing and dressing tasks). Your carers, family and friends are important in your rehabilitation. At times it can be invaluable for your family and friends to be involved in your rehabilitation. The therapy team is happy to recommend and demonstrate ways that it can support you in your rehabilitation.
In some cases it may be appropriate for your next of kin to be involved in individual therapy sessions. This will be discussed with you. You will always be asked whether you are happy for the team to discuss your rehabilitation with your next of kin.
We request that visitors understand that therapy sessions are crucial to your recovery and they may take place during visiting hours. You are expected to be ready to attend each therapy session timetabled for you.
